“Maybe so,” she started, taking his point into real consideration, ”But that particular student?” For some reason, she still found the idea of using that boy as a witness, quite ridiculous. And for all she preached not to prejudge others, she was doing it now. And she couldn’t explain why, although she suspected a small part of it might have been his behaviour towards her previously. Now, she found his reliability questionable, which even she could recognise (in any other situation) was slightly unfair. He hadn’t done anything that offensive. In fact, most of the girls at Hogwarts probably took it the other way. She couldn’t consider the alternative, that despite his weird like for staring at girls, that he might be a truly wonderful and reliable witness.
Frowning once again at his statement, she turned to look at him properly. ”You seem to think you know a lot about me, considering you only met me about an hour ago, Weasley.” She wasn’t actually sure of the correct amount of time since she had first ventured into the grounds, but she supplied her sentence with something that could only be described as a wild guess. The time seemed to have disappeared and then dragged on, at certain points. How was she supposed to keep up with all of that? ”Think what you want, everyone else here does, but I’m one of the most innocent students left at this school. Can you say the same?” Turning her head away again, her attention was caught by that same fourth year wandering nearby the castle entrance, and then with her light eyes falling on the doors themselves, the silence fell between them for a few minutes.
Unable to bring herself to argue with the same statement yet again, she let him claim that ‘maybe’ he was arrogant and vain. In her mind, there was no maybe about it. ”You like me?” she repeated slowly, taking this in. How often was it that someone said that when they first met her? Apparently she didn’t really make a good first, or second, impression. But then, considering everything that had happened, he was bound to like her than most people. She had never really understood the female impression of her. She wasn’t one of those who went around bitching or stealing other girls’ boyfriends. And she couldn’t really help it if she felt the urge to punch a few of them, could she? It wasn’t like she was going to hit all of them. The male opinion was a lot easier to understand. They either liked her based on some kind of challenge their strange brains created or looked her in disdain, because a lot of them had tried and failed. Although admittedly, some of those times were more determined by her parents than her. It wasn’t easy being a Malfoy.
”Why?” she inquired, rather suspiciously. She didn’t want another boy treating her as some sort of bet between him and his friends. The repercussions of such an action would not be good for him or her. Mostly him. Hence why she didn’t get herself too deep with the male gender. It would be different if there were a guy that she was truly attracted to, beyond physical appearance. None of the ones she had met before now had met up to her high standards. In all honesty, it was probably damn near impossible to find a man who would meet her standards. Such a boy was unlikely to have all of those qualities and be interested in her. Yet, a small part of her still hoped for this chance meeting with the ‘perfect’ person. Glancing at the castle entrance again, the disappearance of the boy brought her to think about her own whereabouts. ”I have to go” she stated rather abruptly, before beginning to walk towards the castle. It was unlikely that he would be able to catch up now, she had said it suddenly and walked off at quite a pace.
