“A wind has blown the rain away and blown the sky away and all the leaves away, and the trees stand. I think, I too, have known autumn too long.”
--- E.E. CUMMINGS. ------------------------------------------------------- So, the stereotype went that Slytherins adored the dark and cold, right? Well, no, wrong actually. She hated the cold. But, then maybe part of that particular stereotypical statement was true. She did like the dark. But then so did a lot of people. And they weren't being deemed the ones to lurk underground in weird damp conditions. No, that was an attribute reserved only for the people in her house. Maybe the original Slytherin students had been a bit weird and liked the dark and cold, rather than venturing outside, but she wasn't one of them. And as such, she hated the assumptions about people in her house hating the sunlight. What a ridiculous assumption. For all the rumours, one would think that the majority of Slytherins were vampires, which was the most absurd of all. She didn't see why this label had stuck. A small scowl crossed her pale features as she considered this. She didn't go around expecting Hufflepuffs to bask in the 'glory' of the sun's rays. If one was to be critical, Hufflepuffs were the weirdest people. No one even seemed to have any idea what the qualities of those students were. It seemed such a pointless house, then, to her.
Saying this, from her current position, sitting underneath the largest oak tree in the castle grounds, she could glimpse a few outrageously happy Hufflepuffs walking past. How could anyone be that happy, when the weather was like this? Sure, it wasn't raining, so it could always get worse. Not that she wanted it to get worse. It was already verging on too cold for her. Any normal person would probably have suggested that the reason she felt the cold more than the average person was because she refused to wear coats, limiting the amount of warmth her body could hold. She obviously dismissed these suggestions without a lot of thought, if any, because she didn't like the feel of coats, jackets, jumpers, whatever. And also because she didn't like people telling her what to do. It was probably more of the latter that discouraged her from wearing anything else. She couldn't understand why people couldn't realise that she didn't want their advice, and if they gave it, she wouldn't listen or obey it. Simply, if she was to wear anything to keep her warm, it would be her decision, not some grinning idiot of a fifth year.
Truth be told, autumn was probably not her favourite season at all, despite what she would tell everyone. People thoroughly believed that she enjoyed this month, why? Because she told them so. And so in their heads they had no reason to doubt this claim. Perhaps some found it much more agreeable to pretend they believed, rather than risk questioning her. She couldn't even remember why she protested to like this stupid season. Not only was it cold, and often increasingly wet, the weather was completely unpredictable. Now, she loved being unpredictable, but she hated other things or people changing their minds around her. The crisp autumn leaves crunched under her feet, as she wrapped her arms around her body, attempting to keep herself warm, ignoring the odd glances from passing students. Probably wondering, like she was, what she was doing there. What a stupid season.

Edward was sitting in the hut which came with his Job. Gotta love the sweet life he thought to himself as he sat there in an armchair drinking a cup of tea. The hut had a lot of memories for Eddy, mainly of the time he was being trained by Hagrid. Ed sat there for a moment then with a yawn stood up "Time to work" he said putting his cup on the small table next to the chair and rubbing his hands together, Eddy slipped on his shoes and grabbed a large woolly coat that Hagrid had bought him. It looked a lot like Hagrid's except it didnt have that many pockets.. which was good because if Ed even had that many pockets he'd be loosing things constantly.
Heading out he yawned once again i need to start rinking coffee instead of tea he thought to himself then headed around to the small building attached to the hut which contained all the 'tools of the trade'. Walking in Edward only took a few moments then left armed with only a rake that he Lent against his shoulder as he walked towards the lake. He was planing to rake the leaves there then move onto the ones near the forest, as the ones by the forest were nearly impossible to rake up as they just kept falling.
Edward had always considered using magic but Hagrid never did and during the training of Edward no magic had been used what so ever.. well except for things like making tea. So Edward only ever used magic if he was either late for the work or just didnt have the time and Patience. Ed began to rake around a tree when he noticed a foot from the other side of it. Well im no dumbledore but i think i know tree's dont have feet he thought chuckling to himself as he put his rake back over his shoulder and went round to greet the 'foot'.
Edward could now see the girl who he didnt recognise at all so it probably wasnt one of the students who he let ditch lessons in the hut. "Sup" Ed said with a smile then continued to rake around the girl, of course she would have to move so he could rake the leaves more accurately but he wasnt going to ask her to move, it wasnt polite. If it was possible, it seemed the weather was now beginning to take the idea of tormenting her as a good one. Slightly frustrated by how often she had to reach out, and tuck small strands of her blonde hair behind her ears, she couldn’t help but glare at the occasional passing student. Although very few of them were watching her, even for a few seconds, she couldn’t shake the feeling that some of them were secretly laughing at her. Of course, this was quite absurd. Very few people indeed regularly laughed at people while they walked past, and fewer still openly laughed at her expense. Or they waited to laugh at her expense. Nobody seemed to think it wise to exhibit signs of hilarity when she was nearby. Something that was probably for the best, considering her reaction to people who laughed at her. Laughing at her was not taken lightly.
Maybe she was slightly paranoid, but better that, than to trust everyone, right? She wouldn’t be as badly affected by a backstabber. Some people just led themselves into horrible situations by being complete fools and trusting anyone they met. She wasn’t a cold person, really. She just believed that sometimes people deserved it. It wasn’t that she would rejoice in other peoples’ adversity, she wasn’t some sort of sadistic bitch. Even if some people got that impression. Some people did just deserve certain things. The way she saw it, it was a form of karma. Ironically, her mother might have claimed that she deserved to be distressed by the unpredictability of the day’s weather, due to her unintelligent choice in clothing. A claim that little Jaslene would have ignored completely. She didn't need her mother telling her something she already knew. Besides, if anyone was to tell her, or comment on her unusual apparel, in light of such heavy weather, she'd bite their head off. Alright, not that extreme a reaction. But she didn't want people stating something that was obvious. She'd deny it every time. She hadn't made a stupid choice. Jaslene Malfoy never made stupid decisions!
Glancing up, in the hope of spying something more interesting than the autumn leaves crunching beneath her feet, and yet more of these same leaves swirling around in the misty afternoon breeze. Her hopes were soon crushed, with no people of particular interest in close proximity, appearing anywhere near the horizon. However, soon the larger figure of another person approaching her. Puzzled, she watched him for a few moments, not saying anything, merely observing the situation, being physically unable to understand what was happening. "What are you doing?"
she demanded, rather suddenly. She didn't think about being particularly polite. He was the one who had disturbed her serene atmosphere, after all and she wanted some sort of explanation for his behaviour. Personally she was now thinking that this excuse had better be a good one. Ed raked around the tree and around the girl as to be honest he could see her staring at him and it kind of freaked him out a little. It was actually a relief when she actually spoke even if it wasnt that polite. "Im doing my job" Ed said wit a smile then continued to rake and with a grin he said "I had noticed you sitting there actually, that way im raking around you" then he looked over at her, gave her a wink then continued to rake.
Eddy was going to be interested in her reaction to what he had said, but there realy want anything he could do to move her except physically pick her up which e could get into some major trouble for so he was going to jut play it cool for a while and have some fun while he was at it. "So little miss sunshine, aren't you cold at all?" he asked as he had noticed the weather but he was in a fur coat so he was fine while he didnt seem to be wearing anything that could keep you warm.
Ed figured he would say something like she wasnt cold' so just to put a small twist in it he added "I mean if you are cold you can wear my coat, personally i dont feel the weather that much, i think its all my fat" he aid looking down and patting his stomach, then with a chuckle he went back to raking, he had a pretty big pile of leaves now but he was sure it could get a lot lot bigger by the end of the day. Before speaking to him, the Slytherin girl had already formed her first impression. At the moment, he wasn’t doing anything to radically alter this impression. But then to be fair to him, he had no idea what she was thinking. Unless, for some random reason, he was able to read minds. But the chance of this being true? She glanced at him again. Unlikely. She would be seriously surprised if he was able to read other peoples’ minds. To her, he didn’t seem like the type to possess any special abilities. He just didn’t seem interesting enough. Even if he could read minds, she doubted he’d understand all of the stuff that went through her head. If she didn’t understand most of it, how was anyone supposed to comprehend it into meaningful information? And even if he could, she doubted also that he would bother to use his psychic ability on her. He almost certainly didn’t care what she thought of him. Which was probably just as well, considering the lack of warmth she was showing. Who knew, he probably didn’t like her all that much either.
The last thought didn't bother her as much as it might have concerned many others. She wasn't like them. She knew it was impossible for everyone to like and appreciate you. And it was nothing to her, whether he liked her or not. Surveying his strange manner, she couldn't help but expand her not exactly positive impression of the man. Was he always this... perculiar? It was odd, because what he was doing wasn't weird in itself. In fact, sweeping up was most likely a task that the majority found common and ordinary. But it was the way he did it. She also got the impression, at this point, that he had no desire to please her either. He wasn't being as condescending as her tone had been, but she could tell that he wasn't that bothered what she thought either.
"Right,"
she responded, in answer to his simple statement about his job, obviously not caring at all what he was actually doing, merely that he had interrupted her own space. "And do you have to do that near me?" she demanded, ignoring his strange expressions. She found it extremely difficult to believe that he needed that exact space that she was sitting in, at this exact moment in time. And even if did, couldn't he come back later? She was busy. It didn't matter that she didn't appear to be doing anything. Everything had been fine before now. She had been here first. She couldn't see why he couldn't do something else. She gave a small expression of frustration. Why was nothing ever simple? "I'm not cold at all" she stated, saying it so confidently that she started to believe it herself. "I don't need anyone fussing over me. I can cope perfectly well, by myself" She exaggerated the last word, hoping that he would get the message. She didn't need another person telling her that she had chosen the wrong attire for this weather. And she didn't accept gifts or charity. Accepting help from anyone than those she was close to, was a form of accepting aid. And accepting aid from random people was a sign of weakness. She didn't want to be vulnerable. She was stronger than that. And a strong, young, independent individual like herself didn't need thick layers of clothing, even in conditions like these. She would learn to live with it. Because if there was one thing Jaslene Malfoy never did, it was give up. Giving in was not acceptable. ------------------------------------------------------- word count; 603. tagged; edward jason farrell & whoever outfit; here.notes; n/a [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ed ignored it when she said right and whistled to himself dancing slightly as he raked, he usualy whistled while he worked it just came naturally and so did the weird dance that somehow made time fly by. Ed stopped whistling to speak but it remained in his head and his dance didnt stop "No i dont have to do it by you.. but i do have to do it by the tree" he said then continued to whistle. "Look on the bright side, i havent asked you to help" he said smirking slightly as he began to rake once again.
"Well if your not cold then woopty doo but seriously you may not be all knowledgeable about muggle music but a great band once sang 'just say yes, just say theres nothing holding you back, it not a test nor a trick of the mind'" Ed said .. well he sung the words from the song, hopefully she didnt actually know the song because it was by the snow patrol and was about love.. not wearing a coat but he thought he had managed to do a pretty good job putting it to use.
"Well if you want to do everything yourself then if you just happen to find a coat on the floor im sure you'll put it on and then it'll all be done by you" Ed said taking the coat off and putting it on the floor. He was only wearing a t-shirt nd jeans now but he was still pretty warm thanks to the coat.
