The sharp gaze of one future Gryffindor student followed her cousin’s to the view outside the bedroom window. At many times, before today, the view had been a beautiful one. Occasionally, she found that it was a predictably boring one, but then she had always secretly fancied that Beth had been given a better room with the better view. However, perhaps with the stigma attached to it, the castle in the nearby distance did not seem to fulfil so many of the qualities that she had once attributed to it. Somehow it seemed less attractive now that she was forced to look back at her childhood home through the windows of a strange and foreign building. She didn’t think that it was possible for her to appreciate the alternative view from the castle dormitories at all, even if it was equally stunning. She wasn’t all that confident that this was an objective or rational opinion. Most likely she was just determined to hate it. As were her family members. And for that, she had no quarrel with them.
At the question about her earlier statement from the two older children, she found herself shrugging; almost indifferently, which was slightly odd, seeing as she felt anything but nonchalant. “I was only using three days as an example of a limited time period, I have no doubt that you’re capable of ruining the school in less time.”
Like they had both uttered, just a few minutes ago, two days seemed plenty of time for the twins to cause chaos alone. With the eight of them put together, Hogwarts would suffer for removing their privileges and personal freedom. As far as Evie was concerned, she’d give the school the benefit of the doubt for the first twenty or so hours, until she was certain of what she was getting into. Yet, given her everyday character, it wasn’t likely that she’d last long, before making her final decision. The girl wasn’t exactly a big thinker. She was rather, what one might call, decisive. The sudden appearance of yet another Dalton in their midst distracted her thought process for a few minutes. Turing her brown head, she looked back at the new arrival. It was kind of strange, having so many of them grouped around Beth’s room at that very moment, any more children and they’d practically have the whole family inside one room. She couldn’t remember the last time they all voluntarily stood and had a sensible discussion. If you could refer to this meeting as containing rational thoughts. With three of the four currently ranting about the time at which students were expected to rise from their beds and attend lessons, there wasn’t that much of sense in the conversation. At least, not at that moment anyway. She laughed at Josh’s question, which was directed to her younger brother. “Oh, quite the opposite, Joshua,” she replied, before allowing Arthur to respond. “Arthur feels brilliant about everything. Merlin, he probably likes the stupid idea.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] TAGGED|| bethany, joshua and arthur dalton. NOTES|| none to mention, WORDS|| five-zero-four. LYRICS|| you're beautiful. Hold your head high heavy heart. So take a chance and make it big. They all reacted to his presence exactly how he had predicted, except Josh who had actually asked him something which caught him off guard slightly. He had just opened his mouth to speak when his sister answered for him. Closing his mouth feeling slightly disappointed he remained silent, he wasn't letting them know he was disappointed though, he would just hide it up inside. Shes right though Arthur thought, he did want to go to Hogwarts, and go on some epic adventure like in a comic book, and he was up early most days anyway, not that anyone knew as while everyone slept he would usually fly about in the morning light on his broom. He didn't like flying in the day because someone always took charge and made him be something like a chaser or keeper when realy he was more seeker material.
Arthur looked past his two cousins and away from his sister, his gaze was out of the window on Hogwarts that he could just see in the distance. I'm gonna join the quidditch team he thought hoping it wasn't too late for him to try and become a seeker to show his family he wasn't just a weirdo like they all thought he was, and he knew they thought he was. i wounder if the beds are comfy he began to ponder as he let the others speak. Cause it’s the last you’ll ever get. If we don’t take it, when will we make it?

it seemed strange to just stand around talking about something they had little to no control over and weren't looking forward to, arthur excluded. then again, they had a habit of complaining to one another when they could do nothing about a situation. it was one of the things that kept the family attached to each other, whilst most families would probably have ended up in a civil war spending as much time together as the daltons did. a lot of people tended to view the pure blooded families as snobbish and pretty much evil, which certainly wasn't true in their case. okay, so the two fathers weren't exactly heros, and bethany's own mother was a bit of a snob, but that stereotype was dragged down upon the eight children too. bethany kind of phased out of what her family had been saying for a few moments as she simply stared at the castle. "i just hope that the tutoring we've had matches up to what they've been learning, otherwise we're screwed when it's exam time." another thing to look forward to. sitting in a hall in total silence and answering questions. basically, moving a lesson into a bigger room, making them shut up, and carrying on as normal. too many subjects were apparently just answering questions and hardly anything practical at all.

WELL GO GET YOUR SHOVEL A N D W E ' L L D I G A D E E P H O L E TO BURY THE CASTLE, BURY THE CASTLE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Joshua smirked when she said that three days was just an exampole. She knew very well that they were capable of driving someone insane in less time, and he was sure that if they tried really hard, doing it in one day wouldn't be out of the question! But maybe he was underestimating the improtance of planning the whole thing, as they would of course need excuses to keep out of detention, and at the same time they would need to know how to get to each individual teacher, therefor they needed to know some sort of weakness or something that annoyed them particularly well. And it would take them over a day to find that stuff out. Two days was probably the minimum, with decent planning of course! "You know us too well" He joked, although she probably did. With eight childeren in the hosue, how easy was it to get to know someone well enough to know their limits? Couldn't be that difficult, as all they had to talk to was each other. Josh smirked when Evie answered for Arthur. She was probably right, too, as he did seem like a little bit of an odd ball. He probably had the opposite feeling to all of them, and no doubt he was anticipating the lessons with excitement. dork. Although no one outside of the Dalton family would get away with pointing out that sort of information. It was just one of those family things, even if Josh did think Arty was an oddball he'd still jump up and defend him, as it was family loyalty, and he'd been taught that from an early age. Josh surveyed Arthur for a moment with raised eyebrows, as he seemed perfectly content and lost in thought. When Beth mentioned exams, Josh let out a groan. He didn't even want to think that in four months he'd be in a room in silence sitting some boring and long paper, and would be unable to talk for fear of cheating. It would just suck. He nodded, hoping that what they had learned complied with the curriculum that they had being taught at Hogwarts, as there was no way that they could fit years of learning into four months! It just wouldn't be possible. "Beth you know you're smart enough to walk these exams. Just because your blonde, doesn't mean your stupid. much." He joked, poking his tongue out at her and laughing. He knew she'd know he was joking by the way that he said it. She was smart, at least smarter than him at any rate. Oh yes, he had a good mind, but he tended to drift off and think about other things if something was boring him, which meant that he didn’t always remember all the things that he needed to. That was why he was slightly worried about the exams, but he was forcing himself not to think about them, as panicking wouldn’t help any of them.[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There was no denying that standing around complaining wasn’t really helping their situation much, if at all. Yet, it did do something. Something quite important. It made everyone feel slightly better about his or her latest predicament. Well, she couldn’t vouch for every other member of her family nearby, but it certainly made her mood improve somewhat. And let’s face the facts here, in the current climate; she’d need all the laughs she could get, before entering her new and unfamiliar surroundings. Nothing would change, of course, in light of their disagreement through the medium of shouting and moaning, but it was a highly effective way of releasing the pent up rage she was holding inside her. The injustice of the situation seemed to astound her every time she thought about it. She couldn’t work it out either. What had they done to upset the four adults so much, that they’d resort to this sort of tactic?
Some surprise came to her, in the absence of her younger brother’s voice. Sure, she’d given him little opportunity to speak widely in answer to the question Josh posed, only a few minutes ago. But, usually he was difficult to keep quiet; she was somewhat astonished with the way in which he just sat there, not even appearing to be properly engaged in their plight. Truthfully, as soon as she’d spoken for him, she’d expected him to pipe up with some witty remark that he hoped would make everyone laugh. The lack of this behaviour seemed rather amiss. It seemed the decision made by the parents was affecting him too, although he clearly wasn’t as angry as Beth or Josh had been about the whole thing. She personally felt that she would feel a whole lot better if she were able to stomp her feet and scream at the top of her lungs. Evidently, this kind of performance would have been more than a bit inappropriate, so she didn’t see fit to resort to that extreme. Not just yet anyway. “You really think it will be that bad?”
she felt the urge to ask the room at large. Her eyebrow rose ever so at the mention of exams. Unlike the oldest two Dalton children, who seemed to share the same passionate dislike for them, Evie had never conducted herself in a similar fashion. She rather liked exams, as long as they concerned subjects or theories she was actually interested in. She’d heard some pretty worrying rumours about certain lessons at their proposed school, however, particularly about one called History of Magic. Now, Evelyn was used to learning this sort of information, but the idea of being taught by someone who was renowned for sending pupils to sleep wasn’t a good one. She too was of the same opinion. She really hoped that the teaching at Hogwarts matched the quality instruction she had become accustomed to, over the many years of lessons at home. “Apparently the teaching is okay,” she voiced quietly. “They offer a variety of interesting subjects too, well, I’ve heard anyway.”[/blockquote][/blockquote] TAGGED|| bethany, joshua, arthur dalton. Hold your head high heavy heart. So take a chance and make it big. Arthur just sat there letting them speak, sure usually around the others he would speak just as much and everyone would laugh at what he said even if he didn't mean it to be funny but he just went a long with it. He couldn't see the point in trying to speak about the subject of Hogwarts as.. well he figured they would all end up laughing at what he said. I cant just sit here he thought looking out the window at Hogwarts I need to think this through though.. he said then began to ponder what to say so he wouldnt look like the fool once again.
His sisters question gave him a chance to speak so before anyone could take it he quickly stood up and said "Well.." then he slowed down so he could speak normally and think it through as he spoke. "You guys don't know what its like there.. it could be amazing" looking at josh he said "there could be hot girls" he then turned to his sister and Beth "Good looking guys.. there's the forbidden forest and they even have a tree that moves!" he said with a small smile, he had been doing his research about the place and to him it made home sound like hell. "..or something like that" he added sitting back down. Bet they don't listen he thought and waited for a reaction. Cause it’s the last you’ll ever get. If we don’t take it, when will we make it?

"well, dearest joshie, you seem to forget that it's only a dye. try it with a malfoy instead, you might get more of a reaction," she retorted, sticking her own tongue out in response. it was rather amusing just how childish the two of them were. it wouldn't have surprised her if her parents felt kelsie, who happened to be the youngest of the children, was more mature than them. it certainly seemed that way; despite the fact that they were both of age and more than capable of keeping their siblings and cousins under control, they always hired an incompetent carer to watch over them when they left the house. to prove a point, beth let the younger children cause mayhem and stood around laughing as the baby-sitter attempted to grasp control, before begging her to tell them to stop. she never did of course, always telling the carer that she had some irrelevant task to complete which was much more important than controlling her family. evelyn was starting to convince bethany that she should at least give hogwarts a chance, and she wasn't at all pleased with her weakness to listen to the other girl in the room. arthur was also becoming rather persuasive, and he had her full attention as soon as he mentioned the possibility of attractive males. as big as their house was, you ran out of things to do after quite a while, and there were only so many places that you could hide. beth had actually compiled a checklist of all the possible hiding places in the house to speed things up if she had to count. she had often turned to watching muggle films, and they were often romantic and full of good-looking actors. "okay, i'll resist the temptation to burn a classroom for a week. if they haven't impressed me by then, i'm going back to my original plan. happy now?" bethany said, her comment aimed mostly at arthur and evelyn.

WELL GO GET YOUR SHOVEL A N D W E ' L L D I G A D E E P H O L E TO BURY THE CASTLE, BURY THE CASTLE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Josh narrowed his eyes at his sister, somewhat playfully as she called him 'Joshie'. He knew it was dye, but it suited her well, and he wasn't talking about her personality! She actually looked really pretty blonde, and it was a plus as it really had pissed their mother off when she'd dyed it! It was hilarious watching Beth make sure that the dye would stay on, so that her mother couldn't stop her from being blonde! Josh had helped, of course, supplying as many spells as he could think of. "Well you obviously have the memory of a blonde, as you've easily forgotten how I hate that nickname"
He said again, poking his tongue out at her. Maybe he would try that with Malfoy. Though that would probably earn him some detention, as knowing him, he'd take it further than one blonde comment. It was odd, how childish they could act around each-other, although he still hated that nickname, as he wasn't a child, he just could act like it on demand. Especially with Beth. He was able to be responsible, and was capable of keeping the younger Dalton's controlled, although his parent's didn't seem to think so, and hired an incompetent nanny to care for them. But after successfully sending 32 nannies, (not that he was counting) , screaming out of the house, then he was sure that he was capable of wreaking havoc at the school! And with the help of Beth and Evelyn, and some of the other Dalton's, he was sure that it was likely the teachers would strike within a week to get them out of Hogwarts! he heard Evelyn's comment, and was about to answer when Arty began to speak. Josh turned to look at him, half listening, half off in Josh land. "Yeah. Hot girls can't be too bad. But what are the chances of meeting a hot pure blooded girl who's single?" Josh asked, although it didn't actually matter to him if she had a boyfriend, as that meant more trouble for the causing! Josh frowned at Beth, as he could see she was being persuaded. Would it really be bad? new friends to laugh with, new girls to look at, new places to check out. And a moving tree? It sounded a lot better than he thought. But it was a hell hole, filled with mudbloods who's standards mirrored those of, well, people with low standards! So what sort of place was that for the Dalton's, who's standards were a lot higher than most peoples? But the idea did sound tempting. "Fine. One week. If the school impresses us, and there is some decent pure blooded hot girls there, then The school stays. Else, I'm with Beth on the burning thing!" He said with a smirk, imagining the faces of the people that saw the class on fire! It would be epic![/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

And finally, there it was. Her brother’s voice. It seemed that he had been sat there so long, without a word passing his lips that she was actually starting to forget what it sounded like. Apparently, he was quite eager to get his view across on this particular subject. Of course, she had raised the question, with the intention of permitting anyone to speak in answer, but truthfully, she hadn’t expected him to be the first. Surprised, she turned her head to focus her attention on his words. As she had predicted, he seemed all for the transition into ‘normal’ education. She gave a swift roll of her dark eyes at this proclamation of how ‘amazing’ the school might turn out to be. She hoped his words were more encouraging, or at least convincing, to the other two in the room. “You’re right,”
she admitted to her younger sibling, “I don’t know what Hogwarts is like. But I think you’re forgetting that you don’t either.” If she was going for the negative outlook, what difference was there in extreme thinking, but with a positive outlook instead? If she went with a positive view, and it turned out just as bad as she was expecting, surely that was worse? She’d rather not deal with the disappointment. At the mention of attractive people, she scoffed. Unfortunately, he appeared to make the twins reconsider their intended actions during the first few days. “Oh, please,” she laughed at this claim, “You all might be that shallow, to be swayed by a foolish announcement of some possibility of seeing half-decent looking people, but I’m not.” It really didn’t matter to her whether there was one attractive boy, or three million swarming around the castle, she wasn’t going to be distracted by such a simple thing. It was perhaps rather ironic then that she had only just recently been trying to convince the others to give the school a chance, even when she wasn’t for the idea herself. Besides, what happened if they all liked it now, and she hated it? She’d be alone in her thoughts; the idea wasn’t appealing in the slightest. And knowing her previous reaction to such situations – drinking until she forgot everything, it wasn’t a good prospect at all. The mention of the moving tree spiked her curiosity for about three seconds, until she remembered that the others were still standing around. She hid the interest well, giving a shrug of complete disinterest, acting as though she came into contact with buildings or things fitting this description everyday of her normal life. “A week!” she exclaimed incredulously as though this was about three thousand weeks, as opposed to just seven days. It might all be fine for the rest of them, being well suited to the Slytherins’ personalities, and even Arthur seemed to fit right in with the rest of the strange students in Hufflepuff. But she couldn’t even imagine herself mixing with the rest of the student population, let alone the ones in her own house. She couldn’t see her personality or attitude ever matching that of a half-blooded Gryffindor. Personally, she was still all for the burning idea.[/blockquote][/blockquote] TAGGED|| bethany, joshua and arthur. NOTES|| none to mention, WORDS|| five-two-nine. LYRICS|| you're beautiful. Hold your head high heavy heart. So take a chance and make it big. Arthur put on a smile from where he sat at there 'one week idea' he knew the school wouldnt appeal to them because he knew they realy wasn't going to give it a decent enough chance I'm fighting a loosing battle he thought going back to the quiet way he had been at the beginning of the conversation. He hadn't realy expected Eve to be that hardest one to convince though but he figured being sorted into Gryffindor wasn't good for her.
I hope they at least don't kick us all out he thought as he didn't want to spend his life at home, he wanted friends that he wasn't related to and he wanted to meet a girl. I need to come up with something he thought to himself anything that'll show them Hogwarts not bad. Cause it’s the last you’ll ever get. If we don’t take it, when will we make it?

i must confess , i’m in love with my own sins ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Clarke was thorougly exhausted. The younger children of the Dalton family had all left with the adults to go to Diagon Alley to do their shopping for Hogwarts. She was more than a little upset and angry that they were being forced to go there. And she wasn't the only one. Almost everyone of the Dalton children had expressed their opinions on the matter in their own way.
Her anger stemmed from the fact that she was fifteen and they were forcing her to transfer into a school. A school that already had distinct cliches. It was highly unlikely that she would find a place for her to fit in. She really didn't mind but it was annoying that she would have to try. No one liked to be alone.
She lugged her many bags up the stairs, feeling increasingly nervous over the thought of taking classes at a school filled with other children. What if she wasn't as smart as they were? What if they were learning things that she hadn't? Clarke did not like to look stupid. At that moment, she promised herself to start reading all of her books immediately. Walking past a room, she noticed her older brother and sister, the twins: Beth and Josh, along with her cousins Evelyn and Arthur. Pausing, she debated with herself whether to stop in or not and then decided, 'why not', upon hearing some of their conversation.
"Hey, guys, we just got back. What were you talking about?" she asked curiously, cocking her head to the side as she smiled at them slightly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THIS THREAD IS finished. "hence i used it," beth replied to her brother. she had successfully convinced her siblings that she was going to wait a week before beginning her escape plans, or at least they seemed convinced. bethany had no intentions of giving hogwarts a chance. she only had four months to break out, and she couldn't afford to lose seven days just to satisfy her family. arthur would probably have figured it out as soon as the words had left her mouth, but she wasn't too sure about josh and evie. her twin of all people should have realised what he aims were, and all of the daltons were aware that once she wanted something, she would get it. there was no room for negotiation. it wasn't even as if any of them knew anything about hogwarts apart from the basics. clarke's arrival meant that everyone was home, and that also meant her parents would soon be coming to check she'd been packing, which she clearly hadn't. having three, now four, other people in her room would also seem slightly suspicious to them, but maybe they'd be lucky. they'd know what they were talking about anyway. though they hadn't voiced their disagreement, it must have been very obvious. for starters, she had made a cake in the shape of hogwarts (her wand had come in great handy by this point), before throwing it at the wall and then smashing apart the remnants. her aunt had then barked orders at her to clean up the mess and 'be grateful for what you're being given the oppurtunity to do'. beth was grateful for a lot of things, admittedly not as much as she should, but going to hogwarts certainly didn't make the list.

WELL GO GET YOUR SHOVEL A N D W E ' L L D I G A D E E P H O L E TO BURY THE CASTLE, BURY THE CASTLE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Josh kept a smirk hidden as he eyed his sister. There was no way she was going to waste seven days in Hogwarts, when she had only four months to escape. She'd said that in two days she'd have people screaming and running to get away, and there was no doubt in Josh's mind that she was sticking to that promise. And if no hot girls caught his eye on day one, then he would happily join in. He couldn't wait seven days to meet a hot chick, he'd probably either die of boredom, or be drowned by unnecessary homework. He heard Evie's point and smirked. She had a good point, as none of them knew what Hogwarts was like. "Exactly. It could be hell on Earth for all we know. Swarming with mud-bloods and half-bloods thinking they are better than the pure people, like us."
Josh said with a shrug. And it could have been like that! Or it could have been the opposite, with hot girls and good food! Josh looked pointedly at Evie, trying to convey that they weren't really going to wait a week. At least he didn't intend to, and neither did Beth. Unless a hot girl walked into his life that was. "Now now. Not shallow, just confined to an existence where we don't meet many good looking people that we can have a relationship with" Josh said with a grin. As most of the girls he knew were his family, or someone he detested and didn't get on with at all. Not that there were many people he did know outside his family, as they led a confined existence, which was kind of depressing if you thought about it. And pretty sad too. But Hogwarts could be the link that let them make such connections with pretty and interesting girls who were not family members. Although the chances of his parents agreeing on someone that Josh picked to be with was little to none, as they were picky like that. It was all about standards. As long as she was a pure blood, was pretty and interesting, Josh didn't care much at all! Josh caught the sight of he and Beth's little sister, Clarke walk in the room. It meant that the adults were back with the books and robes and such, that they had gone out to buy. He flashed Clarke a smile and turned to face her a little bit. "Well little sis. I know your smart, and I'm sure you can pretty much guess the topic of our lovely conversation. Garden gnomes" He said the last bit sarcastically, smirking. As if they would have a whole conversation about garden gnomes! As if they would be talking about anything other than the move at that moment! It was like a little family reunion, there was only that one topic that they would all be talking about![/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Surprisingly to Evie, her younger sibling seemed to have given up the fight. Of course, she was not as naïve to believe that this was over. He wasn’t at all convinced by his family’s arguments about how bad the school might be, the same way that she was unwilling to humour the alternative world, in which Hogwarts was amazing and everyone was just lovely. If she had been about ten years younger, he might have stood a decent chance of convincing her that everything was going to be alright, the same way in which adults told their children it was ‘all going to be fine’, when in reality, they both knew the opposite situation was the reality. He gave the impression as though he had resigned though, unable to say anything that she didn’t refute in her own line of debate. At that moment of time, she was almost one hundred per cent certain that there was nothing anyone in the room could say that would persuade her that Hogwarts wouldn’t be that bad at all.
Hearing the voice of yet another member of her family, she scrambled to pick up the books that she had dropped in her haste to turn towards the door, and blushed slightly. Deciding that she would probably continue to drop various items all over the room, if she was permitted to hold them any longer, she placed the two remaining books onto a wooden piece of furniture nearby her position, with every intention of returning to reclaim them later. Relieved that she could move her arms freely, without being weighed down by her textbooks, she moved her head to glance at the person behind her. A mixture of slight relief and some annoyance passed her face, as she gazed upon the figure of one of her youngest relatives, standing in the doorway. Unable to decide how best to put forward all of the ideas that had been discussed in the past however much time, she left the question to the girl’s siblings instead. Fortunately, Josh took it upon himself to do just this. And since he managed to do such a fine job of it, she remained silent for a few seconds longer.
The voice of her eldest male relative reminded her of his claim. “Alright, I’ll admit that you aren’t always that shallow, but only if you admit that you have shallow tendencies all the same.”
It might have been a bad thing for anyone else to admit, but he should have felt no shame in saying it aloud. Not that the boy felt much shame in anything he said or did. In a way, all of the Daltons were a bit shallow and superficial. You couldn’t escape it. It had to be due to the amount of time they spent in the same environment, with adults who also shared hints of this personality flaw. Besides, when, if, she corrected herself inside her head fiercely, they got to that awful school, the twins were still allowed to be somewhat shallow. It was a sort of stereotype of a Slytherin, from what she’d gathered. Biting her lower lip, she spoke up again. “Garden gnomes?” she repeated, raising a perfect eyebrow at the boy’s answer, as though she had only just thought about it properly. “Oh yes, because they cause such grief, don’t they? I frequently find myself despairing about the nature of these ordinary creatures.” Seemed that sarcasm also ran in the family then. Hold your head high heavy heart. So take a chance and make it big. Arthur had completely gone into his own little world, woundering whether or not he could get his parents to get him the new cleansweap that had only just come out. It would deffinetly give him an advantage if he was to be the seeker on the hufflepuff team although he couldnt realy imagine himself infront of all those people on a broom, he figured he'd just wait untill it happend.
When he came back to reality he noticed the second blond Dalton had joined them. Why the heck did they dye there hair he thought to himself, sure it suited them but it didnt make much sense to him. "there talking about hogwarts" arthur said simply he couldnt be bothered with the enitre garden gnome thing as it was just completely off topic and random.
"You know we can milk this" he sudgested as he watched the floor and a hand remained on the back of his head scratching it. He was gonna milk it to get a broom so he figured everyone may aswell milk it to get somethign they want, it wasnt as if the adults were lacking the funds to give them all at least one thing they wanted. Cause it’s the last you’ll ever get. If we don’t take it, when will we make it?
