YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTJASLENE MALFOY NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT The end of the shortest month of the year was near. For some, this was better than others. Some people were practically bouncing with the thought of the winter months officially ending, whilst some students were acting as though the end of the world was also near. Admittedly, the latter were mostly Slytherins, known for their appreciation of the cold and dark, but it was evident that the approaching spring months was creating a deeply mixed reaction amongst the population of Hogwarts. On several occasions, Jas had found reason to believe that some of the Slytherins were only acting as though they hated spring, and loved the winter, in order to annoy as many of the other students as possible. As for her, she wasn’t particularly bothered or concerned. She figured what would come would happen regardless of whether she liked it or not. Change always happened. Her personal opinions wouldn’t halt the coming of March. Of course, she couldn’t deny that in some ways she was pleased that the coldest part of the year was supposedly almost finished. It wasn’t as pleasant as some would make-believe, walking around in the coldest section of the school in winter. Sometimes, it was near unbearable.
The only trouble with the end of February was that the sixth year found herself pretty clueless as to what to do during these transition days. Today was a prime example. As far as she could remember, she didn’t have any lessons until mid-afternoon and she was bored. She didn’t feel like accepting the previous offers from various people, because, well simply, they were stupid offers. Why would she want to do those things? In her usual manner, she rejected most of the suggestions, without giving them much consideration. She didn’t care. She figured she was perfectly capable of finding something constructive and interesting to do with her free time. Normally, she would have found a book to read. But recently, she found herself being subject to a lot of criticism from her fellow house members for spending so many hours in the common room, curled up, reading. They claimed it was too Ravenclawy. At the time, her only response was to ask what the fuck that adjective was meant to mean. It wasn’t even a proper word. That kind of mistake really irritated her. But then, they were Slytherins. She should have expected that.
Leaving the books locked in her trunk in her dormitory, she had wandered out into the midst of the castle grounds. As usual, she had no idea where she was going, but during such times, her head was often drawn towards a particular area or person. This morning appeared to be no exception, when certain glass buildings in the distance caught her attention. Having opted to leave Herbology behind at the end of her third year, she wasn’t too sure why this was suddenly so attractive. Perhaps it was the knowledge that this area would always be deserted. The only chance she had of meeting anybody else was if they had actively stalked her from her dormitory door to this very location. Happily for her, the probability of this happening was next to none. Perching herself on the wall nearby the third greenhouse, she swung her legs to and fro, with a childlike glee. It was times like this that she was truly grateful to Hogwarts, for all it had to offer.

The light breeze, the sound of birds calling to one another, and the faint scent of sunlight all alerted one Anemone Nott of the changing world around her. To be honest, the sixteen year old witch welcomed the change. It meant that the dungeons wouldn't be that chilly in the mornings - or at all, rather. Although charmed to keep in the warmth, the hallways were another matter completely. There were countless times during her stay at Hogwarts that she had feared losing a toe or two while trekking back and forth from her common room. Perhaps she was being a bit melodramatic? It also meant that she was that much closer to finishing her year at Hogwarts. She loved Hogwarts, don't get her wrong, but that didn't mean she couldn't get homesick. Her mother must be rather lonely without the ruckus of four children in the house.
Smiling rather goofily with a book under her arm, Anemone walked around the greenhouses. It was a warmer than normal morning and she had taken the pleasant weather as a chance to wander around a bit. The Slytherin Common Room was rather stuffy. She had been invited to join several of her friends in their dorm to do Merlin knows what, but she had declined politely. They were probably going to have a girls session or something. She wasn't in a mood to giggle and speculate on the actions of her schoolmates. She'll be out of the loop next time she attended their almost sect-like meeting, but she'll risk it.
With a determined beat to her loping stride, Anemone looked around, in search for a nice place to settle down with her book: Nature's Nobility: A Wizarding Genealogy. It was something her father had sent her for Christmas and she had yet to find the chance to read it. Theodore Nott had been unable to spend Christmas with them; something that sorely disappointed their mother and put a damper on their Christmas. Whatever.
She had settled against a sturdy tree by the third greenhouse and had started skimming through the preface - she never had patience with the first few pages of the notes - before she spotted legs out of the corner of her eye. Obviously, those legs belonged to a student. No teacher would be caught acting in such a way, after all. And based on the Slytherin green socks that were found, the student was a Slytherin. Normally, she would have just let the person be. After all, she had come here for her peace and no doubt, her housemate had come here for solitude as well. Unfortunately, every time the legs swung, it lightly tapped against the greenhouse, making a thump-thump sort of noise. It was really distracting.
With a frustrated sigh, Anemone stood up, placed one finger in between the pages, and walked over to the stranger. "Excuse me," she addressed the person, "Oh, it's you." She said with a slight frown, once she recognized the figure of one Jaslene Malfoy. To be honest, she had nothing against the girl. Their fathers had been friends during their years at school and Jaslene's mother was the headmistress. She was aware that the other Slytherins were a bit wary of her and found fault with her attitude in general, but as the muggles say, she was Switzerland and was decidedly neutral. "What're you up to, Malfoy?" She asked curiously while clutching her book to her chest. It was strange to address her as Jaslene, for they were not that close. Her father had once encouraged her to befriend the eldest Malfoy.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTJASLENE MALFOY NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT Even as she sat there, legs still happily swinging, occasionally picking up motion and becoming faster, she couldn’t displace her feeling that the deserted areas of Hogwarts at this time of year were the best ones to be found. If she was to adopt the traditional Slytherin attitude towards the castle and its related grounds, she should have currently been complaining (either in her head or aloud) or insulting the school. She didn’t really understand this viewpoint, if they hated it so much, why didn’t they transfer to another school? It wouldn’t be that difficult and it would mean that she wouldn’t have to put up with several moaning fourth years surrounding her in the common room. It was simple. And it would result in a win-win situation. Sadly, not many of these dissatisfied students actually took her up on the suggestion. Perhaps they truly enjoyed bitching about everything and anything, and Hogwarts was an easy source of venting their frustrations.
She didn’t attempt to understand the minds of people like that. Sure, she did of a bit of complaining about certain aspects herself, but she didn’t repeat this every time a silence fell. Besides, she wouldn’t have chosen these students to share her thoughts or feelings with. Apart from the obvious – the thoughts being private – she had no wish to spend more time in their company than absolutely necessary. Hence why she had ventured out into the castle grounds, a place that very few Slytherins walked to. Most of them simply couldn’t be bothered, which was a strange concept for the sixteen-year-old girl to try and appreciate. Surely, wandering out into the midst of the castle grounds would give them everything they wanted and more. There were lots of other things out there that they could criticize. It was their ideal situation. Not that she wasn’t entirely grateful that most of her housemates were so reluctant to leave their green sanctuary; it gave her the peace and solitude that she often desired. Where else in Hogwarts could one find that? Everywhere else seemed to be teeming with prefects and teachers.
The only thing she could find that was wrong about this location, according to her own position, was the fact that she was missing her book. Even now, she could not contemplate what was so immoral about reading. She read a lot, whilst at the school, yes, but she couldn’t see the problem. Maybe others simply protested because she became superior to them in knowledge. But, that could have probably been achieved without reading any sort of literature. In truth, Jas had often wondered why the Sorting Hat had chosen Slytherin over Ravenclaw. Of course, she had never voiced any such thoughts. That would be a form of social suicide. But the thing that was really bothering her was why she had given in as quickly as that. Her personality seemed to be altering before her eyes. Where was that stubbornness that she prized about herself?
Distraction from these worrying deliberations came in the form of noise from a close proximity. She glanced upwards, yet her feet still swinging gently to and fro. She had no intention of moving. Not just yet anyway. Before she had a chance to think about anything else, the person suddenly started talking at her. A polite person, though. She wasn’t concerned for her health and safety any longer. She didn’t believe that such a polite student could seriously cause her any harm. Her eyes surveyed the student who had appeared. As soon as she’d heard the voice, she’d had her suspicions, which had been confirmed correct. Having dealt with this student a few times before, Jaslene wasn’t particularly certain of her feelings towards the other girl. It was best described as a sort of general apathy. A rare occurrence in this school. Saying that, she wasn’t all that pleased by the tone of the girl, when addressing her. “Yes, me. Congratulations on that truly spectacular piece of analysis, Nott. Really, quite brilliant.”
Unfortunately for the other Slytherin, Jas spotted the book almost instantly, sparking a small bout of jealousy. It was this book clutched in the arms of the girl, which she was more interested in. Transferring her gaze from the square object to the face of her fellow house member, she returned a similar frown to the one her company had first given. “Nothing.” She replied, without much more thought to the answer. If she actually knew what she was doing, she might have added some more words. “But, pray, do reveal to me what has brought you to this area, in order to disturb my activities.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WE LOST CONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WELOSTCONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WE LOST CONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE •tags• anemone iphigeneia nott. •status• complete! •comments• none to speak of. •word count• seven-seven-five. •the outfit• click the link. •lyrics• DIE TONIGHT, LIVE FOREVER by InnerPartySystem •credit• AMANDA THE PIRATE * @ CAUTION !
