as to why tiffany had decided to venture into the dungeons was unbeknown to her, but what she did know was that she was there, and so she might as well enjoy herself. then again, the dungeons weren't exactly the best of places when it came to providing fun things to do for the students, and sometimes even the staff, of hogwarts. nevertheless, she'd find something that was worth her time, even if it meant sitting down and finishing off her overdue transfiguration essay. why she had even opted to study at newt level wasn't something she could remember, but she had a feeling it had something to do with her head of house advising her on subjects to carry on with. as much as she hated to admit it, she thought professor moore was kind of cool. he taught potions for a start, and had been a slytherin in his own time at hogwarts, but he was a teacher. therefore, she had to treat him as if he knew nothing about her and pretend to dislike him.
what with the dungeons being dark and all, it was easy to trip over or bump your head on something. tiff was being especially careful not to do either of the two, though she had stubbed her toe a few times, and very nearly given herself a concussion when she had forgotten about one of the arches being lower than the rest. those were the kind of things that reminded her that magic didn't always work out as it was intended. 'jesus tiffany, are you really that thick?' she thought, realising that magic was the answer in this situation. you'd have thought that would have sunk in now that she was of age, but that wasn't the case. with a wave of her wand and a muttered incantation, the tip of the blackthorn lit up, casting a bright light over the formerly dark dungeons. her eyes caught a glimpse of a blonde haired girl, though she had to blink a few times for her sight to adjust. once the initial 'blindness' had passed, she lowered her wand so that the light wasn't directly in her eyes, but so that she was still able to see the girl before her. "jaslene, is that you?"

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHEST JASLENE MALFOY NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT If one were to spot the blonde girl sat alone in the middle of the Dungeons, very few people would question it. If she had belonged to any other house than the one she was in, there might have been a few more questions. But because she was a Slytherin, that automatically seemed to make everything make sense. She couldn’t see the difference herself. If she’d randomly seen some Hufflepuff squatting outside the Kitchens, she’d be a bit curious. Just because she was sat by her common room didn’t mean there was anything more ordinary about her behaviour. Sometimes it irritated Jas, just how much people seemed to think that students adhered to their house stereotype. If that were true, she’d be an evil witch in training, right? And although she had a bit of a temper, no capacity for the concept of jokes and disliked younger students didn’t mean she was another Voldemort. Honestly, some people needed to get their heads around the fact that it was now the twentieth century and people weren’t as easily defined by their house characteristics anymore.
She supposed that the argument followed that only Slytherins could tolerate the dark and dampness of the Dungeons for much longer than a Potions lesson. But still, what rubbish. Saying this, Jaslene was one of those students who quite liked the lower levels of the castle. That wasn’t to say that she enjoyed walking and spending time in the Dungeons for long periods of time. She wasn’t really a fan of the cold or wet, but once you got over the initial feeling, it could sometimes be quite soothing and of course, due to the stereotypes attached, often one of the quietest places in the school. Even as she surveyed the long trawling corridors before her, she couldn’t hear or see anything, which would cause a disturbance anytime soon. There seemed to be nothing in close proximity. Satisfied with this conclusion, she picked up the book she had dropped suddenly. Perhaps the weirdest thing about what she was doing was the fact that she had chosen to read a book in almost pitch black. Not the usual chosen location for such an activity.
She had her own light though, if needs be, and as always, she had her wand on her. Sitting in a mere t-shirt, cardigan and a short pair of shorts, most people would have been cold. But when one was accustomed, as Jaslene was, to these kinds of conditions, it wasn’t all that bad. She was about halfway through the page when a small sound disturbed her. Glancing upwards, she was certain that she had heard somebody else speak. Being unaware as to who this person was, and rather annoyed by this abrupt interruption, she moved without much more thought. Letting the book fall to the floor, she took a few steps forwards, until she could see the clear outline of the other person. Unaware of whom this person was, for the moment, she retrieved her wand from her back pocket and pointed it as close to the person as physically possible. Frankly, she was surprised her company still had a face left. When the familiar voice came out of the darkness, she blinked, lowering her wand as she addressed the other girl, “Fucking hell, Tiff, you almost gave me a heart attack.”

tiffany would have sworn she heard the turning pages of a book, and hardly anybody at the school read books apart from the geeks in ravenclaw, as well as the handful of nerds in gryffindor and hufflepuff. why any of them would be down in the dark deep beneath the castle, she had no idea, but she had a feeling she would be about to find out. the said book hit the floor and a wand was at her face in seconds. a yelp escaped her lips, and realised the person was either a gryffindor or a slytherin. only people in those houses would act so quickly and in that way. judging by their present location, she was going to go with slytherin. once the voice met her ears, she matched it to the blonde hair she knew she had seen, and had a damn good idea of who was holding the wand. the fact that she had managed to scare a malfoy made her rather proud of herself, and she wasn't about to apologise to jas about it.
"were you just... reading?" tiff asked, raising an eyebrow at the rich girl before her. the fact that they knew each other and weren't trying to kill each other (jaslene's wand at her face not being included) was evidence enough that their families were close to one another, but since draco had been a friend of both theodore and pansy, it had given them a headstart. it took a lot for either the malfoys or the notts to accept anyone other than a pure-blooded family, and it was a surprise that the malfoys still had such a high reputation after draco had married himself to the mudblooded gryffindor that was their headmistress. tiffany would never mention that though. she for one hand-picked her friends very carefully, and that resulted in there being quite a few of them. jaslene was a valued friend of hers, and not one that she wanted to offend. her parents were both very capable with their wands, and jas would be no different.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHEST JASLENE MALFOY NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT As to where Jaslene had learned to react so quickly, she was unsure. It was just a skill she had always had. Of course, she was better at reacting than she used to be, but it had always been there. Someone must have worked on this potential during some point of her life. Although, given her parentage, perhaps this had some effect on her abilities. Both of her parents were known for quick reactions and some spectacular wandwork. Many a 'clever' Ravenclaw had attempted to tell her that the idea of passing abilities through genes was very slim. She mostly ignored them though. Occasionally worse, if the mood striked her. She liked the idea of inheriting these talents through her parentage. Nobody was going to ruin that for her. Even as she properly surveyed the girl, her wand had only been lowered very recently. She didn't fancy her chances of letting her guard down that easily. If it had been anyone else, she doubted the situation would be going so well.
At the words from her companion, she gave a small smirk, "Nicely deduced, Tiffany. Nothing escapes you, does it?"
Yes, it was somewhat sarcastic, but it was just her style. "But yes, I was reading. Maybe you should try it sometime. You might even like it." Her eyes flickered over to the book she had dropped in her haste to attack, sorry, defend herself. She knew from years of spending company with the Notts that Tiffany was not a big fan of books or reading. Jaslene, on the other hand, pretty much adored them. Her love of literature, similar to that only of the average Ravenclaw, surely had to be the result of her genetic structure, right? Nobody could deny that it resembled a very similar attitude to the one Hermione was known for in her own Hogwarts years. The only main difference she could think of was that she preferred to read gritty fiction, rather than cold facts about Ancient Runes. This love of literature was probably the one thing that made her stand out from the rest of her fellow housemates. She doubted that some of them could even read. Satisfied with the appearance of someone that wasn't likely to attack her or annoy her enough to want to attack them, she placed her wand back in her back pocket and shrugged, relieving her arms of the previous tension. "What are you doing down here anyway?" It was obvious what she had been doing, as demonstrated by the other girl's question, but as to what Tiffany Nott was doing, wandering around the Dungeons on her own, she had no ideas. However, despite this, she was quite certain that the other Slytherin was as surprised to see her here, as she had been when the girl first intruded on her silence. It wasn't exactly a known meeting place.[/blockquote][/blockquote] WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WE LOST CONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WELOSTCONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE WE LOST CONTROL WE'RE ALL HERE CAUSE •tags• tiffany meredith nott •status• complete! •comments• none to speak of. •word count• four-eight-zero. •lyrics• DIE TONIGHT, LIVE FOREVER by InnerPartySystem •credit• AMANDA THE PIRATE * @ CAUTION !
