jessica couldn't wait to start the trial. it was a very strange emotion for a person to be feeling just before a trial, most people got nervous or worried, but not jessica. she wanted to see the paedophile go down in flames, and with a case like this one, she was pretty damn sure that he would be going to azkaban. there were very few people out in the wizarding world who would what he had done acceptable, and even if the final decision wasn't to send him to jail, he'd get a lot of people yelling abuse at him as he walked down the streets, and probably outside his house day and night. to be completely honest, azkaban sounded like a much easier option, especially since the removal of all of the dementors. however, there were rumours going around that the food had got even worse, that the cells were colder, and that there were boggarts in a lot of the cells. she hoped they were true. even though she had never spoken to the two students before reassuring them that the trial would go well for them, that they had nothing to worry about, and that they had done nothing wrong. so long as they told the truth, everything would work out perfectly. for everyone except zane anyway. it wouldn't be long before the trial began. the two kids seemed to have a lot of support behind them. the headmistress had promised that she would come along, and it was likely that theodore lupin and thomas moore would come along with her, and possibly even rosalyn rowett. hermione had also allowed some of the students to come along to show their support, which jessica thought was very nice of her. if she was in either student's shoes, she would have felt so much better to see her friends around her. then of course, there was kaleb and victoria. you could count zane shames as well, but he wasn't exactly there to show his support. he had screwed their lives up in the first place. the minister for magic was also due to turn up, though the wizengamot and those there for support would make the final judgement if he was too busy. she was eager to find out which lawyer she would be defending the two teenagers against, though was confident she would win. zane's attorney had already lost.

it started out with a kiss how did it end up like this I T W A S O N L Y A K I S S ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Kaleb sighed, his back was against the wall of the ministry building. There was no one else around, and he was itching. His hand moved into the pocket of his jeans and he pulled out a cigarette packet, and then the last cigarette from within it. . Liting the cigarette, he took a drag and sighed as the nicotine filled his lungs. This was the last Cigarette he was having, he wasn't going to buy another packet ever again. He hated smoking, but he'd had the itch to smoke after the Zane thing that had gone on, so he'd started smoking again. On the plus side, the smoke calmed him down, and as the last remnants of the ciggarette burned out, he flicked it to the floor and stood on it to put it out. Then he picked the stub up and put it in the packet. Then he squashed the packet and threw it in a nearby bin.
Kaleb had waited for this day for weeks, although it probably didn't look like it at the moment! He was almost physically shaking with nerves. Not that he had anything to be nervous of, after all, he was only sending his preverted defence against the dark arts teacher to azkaban, see? nothing at all to worry about! Besides, the attorny had practically assured him that the case was in the bag. Kaleb walked over to the phonebox, and dialed the number almost absentmindedly. Before he knew it, he was in the lobby of the ministry of magic, and face to face with his father.
Well, he may has well have been, as the look that his dad was giving him could penetrate any distance and still say "Hey son, you fucked up. I hate you" But, maybe Kaleb was just reading it wrong. Maybe. He walked past his dad and met his eyes for a moment, before nodding his head slightly. He knew his dad didn't want to talk to him, and the fact that as he walked past his father and down to the hall where the trial was taking place without being stopped told him that what he had thought was right. He sighed as he reached the corridor and saw the attorny there. He smiled faintly at her, but didn't go and talk to her. He didn't want assurances from her at the moment, he didn't want to think about the trial. He leant up against a cold wall of the corridor and took a few deep breaths. This was going to be a long day.

But you'll need me when I'm not here at all
I'm going down in flames I'm falling into this again, yeah- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Zane Thomas Shames, He was feeling like he could just kill himself, if it wasn't for his hands being tied behind his back, so he could do so, he was announced suicidal, and so now he was restrained. He sighed as he was hauled in the 'trial' room, it wasn't going to be much of a trial, he was sure. Atleast he wouldn't let it be one, his attorny stood by him, slightly edgy, Zane sighed lightly and stood straight."Just leave...go join the peanut gallery." Zane whispered to his attorny, the man, the shock on his face was undeniable.
"Are you sure...you'll be....eaten up and tossed into hell." The man asked, his voice shaky. Zane nodded silently, making the man look at him differently.so he thinks maybe I am not a monster perhaps? He watched as the man who could save his hide, went to join the people who hated his guts. its for the best, he supposed, no reason to make a man who was afraid of his client, defend him. He was dragged near the back of hte room, to await his whole thing he had to go through. He spotted Kaleb, and dropped his head.don't look at him Zane, whatever you do, you can't lose your damn composure, your a death eater remeber? He was mentally training himself to except the idea.
Zane just kept his head down, looking at anything but people's faces, he probably looked prideful from there point of veiw, but he didn't really feel like it. He leaned against the wall, putting pressure on his hands, which was quite umcofertable as it was, but he could let these things be seen, he had to look heartless, that what he was really, he had abandoned everyone. Even Coal, realizing this Zane head snapped up to see if his friend was there, he hoped he wasn't, because, he wouldn't be able to stand that. victoria wasn't ready to tell her mother about anything that had happened, not just yet anyway. in fact, it was more a matter of being ashamed about what she had done, not a case of not being ready to tell. instead, she had confided in her sister priscilla. it had gone a lot better than she had thought it would do, and priscilla knew better than to interrogate her for details. she'd been a shoulder to cry on, and had agreed to go with vicky to the trial. the day had come, and victoria was worried. 'what if they don't believe us? what if zane gets away with it? what if can stay at hogwarts and hurt more people?' she had to push it out of her mind. she had to make sure that none of those things happened. they had to believe. zane couldn't get away with it. zane had to go to azkaban. "vicky, it'll be fine. just let the lawyer do the talking and stay with this kaleb guy." priscilla said to her, before heading over to the seats and sitting down beside her husband. victoria took a deep breath before walking over to kaleb and the attorney. she looked down at the floor as she did so, catching a glimpse of the clothes she had decided to wear. 'oh my god vicky, that dress if awful. i can't believe you're wearing that.' she sat down beside kaleb, mentally telling herself to stop worrying about what she looked like and concentrate on the trial. she bit her lip gently and slightly, closing her eyes and taking another deep breath before looking up again. there were more people than she'd first realised, and she was careful to avoid seeing zane. his voice would be enough to break her and or kaleb, but she would stay strong. just like kaleb, she was a lot weaker than she made out to be, but she would keep up the act. she had to, even if it was just for kaleb.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PreThomas felt sick, physically sick that anyone could do what that damned teacher, professor Shames had. He threw his weight behind his lessons, and waited patiently for the trial, and the day was here at last. Pulling on his suit, he decided to take the floo network to the ministry, and so when he was ready, he scattered the powder into the fire and stepped into the blue flames. ”Ministry of Magic!” Thomas spoke, loudly and clearly so that there were no mix ups. A few moments later, Thomas stepped out into the grand entrance of the Ministry of Magic. Thomas first noticed that the boy, Kaleb was already there, and in an apparent stare off with a man of around Tom’s age. He was wearing a suit, and important robes, telling Tom that he worked for the ministry. Tom watched them, and he asked a girl close by who the man was. He was told that it was a ‘Mr Garcia’ and that he was very important at the ministry. Tom knew him then for Kaleb’s father. The staring had stopped, and Kaleb had walked past his dad. Tom followed the boy, and nodded to his father as he walked past. This must be so hard on the poor boy, and yet he kept his composure, and Tom was proud of him for that. Tom straightened his tie, and then walked into the courtroom. He took a seat next to Kaleb, and clapped him on the shoulder. His eyes turned toward the monster that had brought them here, it seemed that he was in the room already. Tom noticed that his hands were bound. He was suicidal, then? That was a coward’s way out in this situation. He nodded to the attorney who was representing the children, and gave her an encouraging smile, before returning his eyes to Shames, and studying his body language. Shames refused to look at Kaleb, a sure sign of remorse, and also one of guilt. He was glad that the kid wasn’t being watched by Zane, as Tom knew that everyone else’s eyes would be on Kaleb and Victoria, who was sat next to him. ”This will be over soon. Both of you and the students at Hogwarts will be safe because of today.” Tom said, a sort of thank you, and a speech of encouragement for them. They needed support right now, and as much of it as they could get. [/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

as promised, hermione had left her arithmancy lesson promptly in time for the trial, after having made sure that she had left the cover work for the mythology lesson that she had been due to teach whilst the trial was in session. the woman grabbed a pot of floo powder from the mantelpiece and threw a handful into the hearth, before stepping into it and announcing her destination clearly. with a crackle as the flames licked over her, she was sent whizzing off to the ministry of magic. she stepped out of the fireplace into the atrium of the ministry, brushing the small amount of ash she had managed to pick up on the way off of her clothes. with a confident attitude to her steps, hermione walked over to the elevators and took it right down to the courtrooms. she spotted the potions master as he entered the room, and victoria seemed to follow soon after. the headmistress reached the end of the corridor and stepped inside, closing the door behind her and walking towards her head of slytherin, the two students, and the attorney that was representing them. she caught a glance of the former professor in the corner of her eye, and resisted the urge to go over there and simply punch him in the face. normally she wasn't a violent woman, and the urge wasn't actually as great as she kind of wanted it to be, but she could break someone's nose quite easily if she had the desire to do so. she sat down at the end of the row beside victoria. "don't you worry, i'll see to him personally if this doesn't work out, but i'm sure it won't be necessary." she whispered loud enough only for the teenagers and her colleague to hear.

SUMMARY the trial continues, and having told his attorney to leave, zane stands even less of a chance. victoria and kaleb tell their stories to the court, and jessica throws in some lawyer stuff to make it all concrete. zane is sentenced to azkaban prison, where he will stay until the ministry decide on a definite imprisonment time. he will then complete his sentence and be released, and will be guarenteed that he will never get a job working with young people ever again.
