It’s Getting Dark and It’s Getting Cold

Annie heard a clunk and she jerked awake, the book that had been resting on her stomach had fallen to the ground, causing the small thump. She was in the Gryffindor common room, spread out on the sofa, some books on the arm of the chair, and the one that had fallen lay open on the floor. She reached down and grabbed it, adding it to the pile on the chair. She had been making a latest attempt on some potions essay or other about amorentia. Amorentia was the strongest love potion around, and Annie had been having trouble writing the three rolls of parchment on the potion, it’s composition, the level of skill needed to make it properly, and lastly, the effects of it. She didn’t have a clue about it, and had gone to the library and borrowed a bunch of books to help her out. Even though potions was one of Annie’s strongest subjects, she thought this homework was particularly harsh. Besides that, it had driven her to the point where she’d fallen asleep instead of reading what she needed to.
Annie sat up in her chair and put the books she’d been using in her bag. It was around one pm on a Thursday, and Annie had been free for the last two hours, so she’d decided to attempt the essay again. She’d just have to tell prof. Moore that she had no idea how to stretch it to three rolls of parchment. She got on well with the professor, so it should be alight. Besides, she was always good in lessons, and one homework wouldn’t be so bad. It wasn’t like she hadn’t tried either, as she’d made it to one roll of parchment. Annie pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. She yawned, as even though she’d just had some sleep she was still quite tired, she had to admit! Annie glanced around the room, she felt a little lonely, and was looking for someone to talk to. She was always one for talking a lot, she loved company when she was in the mood for it, and she was craving the presence of someone who wasn’t a pompous idiot like Trevor Schumacher.
Annie had had a little encounter with Trevor in the girls bathroom the other day. He annoyed the living hell out of her, and she swore to herself that if she bumped into him again, she’d give him a good old slap should he utter one word to her. Now she’d rather spend time with Chris than with Trevor. But then Chris was one of the decent Slytherin that were oh so rare. She had only met him recently, and she had to admit, that she sort of trusted him already. Which was a good thing really, seen as he was spending the weekend at her place. She guessed he must trust her too, as he’d invited her around for Christmas with his folks, which she was so excited about. Her parents were off holidaying this Christmas, which meant that she would have spent that Christmas alone, that was until, Chris came to the rescue. He’d saved her from having a boring old Christmas where she got to drunk to remember anything. Not that forgetting would have been a bad thing should she have been alone! Her face had a sort of glazed over look now, as she’d been so lost in her thoughts that she’d forgotten where she was.
