Trevor frowned slightly, staring at the ground once more as if seeing something no one else could see. It was like he was having flashbacks. He wasn't one to normally talk about his parents. He had just met this girl, and yet he was actually telling her a lot about him that even his close friends didn't even know. It wasn't a subject he normally brought up in conversation. He liked to keep this sort of stuff to himself.
He nodded slightly in agreement, his eyes still on the floor of the owlery. He felt strange and different. He wasn't normally this quiet, especially in front of girls like Millie. He hadn't really been expecting the sort of answer she gave. She made it sound like she was the one who took care of these children the most, and that they became attached to her. That was what an older sister was supposed to do, wasn't it? Well, his own older sister was never like a mother to him.
"It makes sense," he agreed, his eyes narrowed at the ground in thought as he listened to the hooting of random owls fluttering about, deciding that he wouldn't pester her about the subject. It wasn't everyday he had conversations like this one, "I find it better staying here, anyway," he added, "I like this school almost better than my own home and neighborhood. I've never spent a Christmas at home since I started coming here, so I'm used to it," he admitted. Now that was a piece of information about him a very small amount of people knew about, "Are you going to be going to that Christmas Ball thing?" he asked randomly, slightly trying to change the subject as he brought his eyes back up to gaze at Millie.

Millie wrapped her arms closer around her body. This conversation went heavy pretty fast. It was a bit of her awkward conversing skills that seemed nearly non-existent. Then again, Trevor really didn't seem to mind from what she saw. It was just a conversation between acquaintances at this point. There was so much that Trevor knew now, that she didn't even know if anyone else except Dan knew.
She thought of her siblings for a few seconds and immediately wondered about Trevor's older sister. What could she be like? What does it matter? Part of her thought. The other part was still wondering about Trevor's home life, not that it was really her business. It was simply a curiosity train of thought, that could often lead her to trouble. "I like this school almost better than my own home and neighborhood. I've never spent a Christmas at home since I started coming here, so I'm used to it," Trevor had said. Millie felt bad for Trevor, trying to imagine not going home for Christmas. Then she remembered that she was staying home this Christmas. For the first time. Her thoughts echoed. Millie half wanted to invite Trevor to a Christmas at her house, but decided against it. They had just met, for Pete's sake. "I can't imagine that...I'm sorry..." Millie said. "At least you're used to it?" She asked as opposed to stating that it was good he was used to it. Some people never get over "being used to things". When Trevor mentioned the Ball, she looked at Trevor. "Yeah, I'm going. Are you?" Millie asked with some interest, leaning against the window sill she was close to. [/blockquote]

Trevor watched Millie for a moment before glancing at some of the owls that were lounging around. Some of them were black, some were brown, some were gray. Such a wide variety. They were sort of boring to watch, though, since all they did was tend to their feathers or just.. sit there. Then sometimes they flew around.. how amusing.
"Yeah," he replied casually, "Except this year they promised I could come home and we'd have a big family get together, since it was my last year, but nooo! They decided to be all weird and do whatever the hell they wanted like they didn't care how I would take it!" he was fuming now, getting all worked up over this, "But it's not like I care though.. pfft," he muttered, his arms crossing over his chest stubbornly, glaring at a random owl as he tried to catch his breath. It was really rare for him to go off like that, especially in front of a girl he barely even knew.
He tried to compose himself as he turned to look at Millie once more, "Ha.. sorry you had to hear that," he replied uneasily with the smallest of smiles, "Well, I didn't really know if I was going or not," he admitted, "They always seem a bit.. lame, really," he told her. He wasn't really into the school balls that much.

Millie walked over to one of the brown owls that was all alone on a post and began stroking it slowly. The feeling of the feathers felt calming to Millie as she ran her fingers up and down it's spine. The owl didn't really react, which was a bit typical of school owls.
Trevor's outburst startled the owl a little bit, and to be honest it startled Millie as well. She watched Trevor get worked up and rant. Millie took a step towards him and let him finish. She looked at him for a couple of seconds of silence and let him catch his breath. "Don't worry about it," She replied when he apologized for his outburst. "I'm...I'm really sorry." Millie said, not really knowing what else to say. She wanted to say she understood how he felt to be left behind by Parents on odd occasions you know good parents would leave you. She wasn't jumping to the conclusion that Trevor's parents didn't know how to raise him...just it wasn't a good parenting trait.
"Well, I didn't really know if I was going or not," Trevor stated, and Millie took to this answer really carefully. "Er. Well, we could meet up at the ball and hang out if you want. You don't have to go. Millie added the last bit quickly. "But sometimes stuff like the Ball can be improved with company. Plus, there'll be good food. And music." Millie added in as a joke when truthfully the food and music were the only reasons she attended the Balls.

Trevor chuckled dryly, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he watched Millie stroking the owl, "You don't have to be sorry about anything," he replied slowly, "I mean, I never really understood why people said sorry, for things that weren't their fault or anything," he continued, "Like, if I were to go, 'I really don't like the weather today' and someone says 'sorry' to me like it's.. their fault or something.. It's weird. Maybe it's just a niceness thing.." he finally stopped himself, realizing he was rambling once more.
He cleared his throat awkwardly, still leaning against the wall, silently hoping that he wasn't going to end up scaring this girl away. His outbursts were frightening himself. He thought for a moment about her offer. It wasn't exactly like they would go together or anything. It seemed like a kind, friendly gesture, "Sure, I guess it's worth going if I have someone there to hang out with," he replied honestly with a small smile, "So, uh.. yeah.." he mumbled at a loss of words.

Millie smiled weakly. "Trust me, I don't know why I say it sometimes. I think it's a niceness thing. Kind of like an...I dunno how to say it." Millie said casually. She really didn't, though. It was just something she learned to say often when someone felt bad. Kind of an "I feel for you" saying. It was a reflex at this point, and she usually just said it.
"Yeah, it'll be cool." Millie promised, looking at Trevor with a smile. "Plus, it's not like you're paying for it so that you have to stay the whole night," She said casually, "So if you're bored you can just go." Although Millie hoped he wouldn't get bored, because truth be told she really liked talking to Trevor.
A snowy owl flew past Millie and landed on Trevor's shoulder very casually and hoo'd. With a laugh, Millie pointed to the owl. "Looks like you made a friend." She said, giggling. "She's kinda cute, too." Millie added, looking at the owl.

Even though Trevor hadn't known Millie for that long, he knew that she was one of the nicer girls at Hogwarts. Which would explain why she was the type who would apologize for anything that was unfortunate to the other person. He was glad to be having a semi-normal conversation with a girl for once, instead of the constant flirting he was used to. He was definitely in a different mood today, and it actually wasn't all that bad.
He laughed aloud with a small nod, "Yeah, that's pretty much what I usually did whenever I found myself at one of the balls," he replied with a grin now gracing his handsome face, "Usually I would just sneak in, grab some snacks, stuff them in my pockets, and run out," he admitted, not ashamed at all. He actually found what he did quite amusing. There was no point in sticking around if there was no one awesome to chat with.
Trev jumped slightly when the owl landed on his shoulder, but he hadn't scared it off. "Looks like you made a new friend. She's kinda cute, too."; it seemed as if she could have been talking of herself, and not the owl. He did almost consider Millie a friend now, and she was beyond cute. He shook those thoughts from his head as he rose a hand to stroke the snowy creature, "Huh, yeah, but I bet it's just looking for food or something.. the creeper," he joked.

Millie laughed lightly when Trevor revealed his plans for Balls. "Secret Agent Man..." She sang, hoping Trevor would get the reference. If it was anyone other than Trevor, she wouldn't have even attempted to make a joke with something from the Muggle World. She just...felt comfortable talking to him. Probably because you basically told him your life story. Millie thought, slightly joyful with that fact. "Well, the House Elves are pretty good cooks." Millie added, smiling. The Hufflepuff Common Room was right next to the Kitchen. Of course she sneaked in there once in a while for food. It was delicious, especially their small pastries. Millie kept the smile on her face as the owl hadn't moved. Trevor began stroking it and she tilted her head a little to watch. "Huh, yeah, but I bet it's just looking for food or something.. the creeper," "Aw, she's just hungry." Millie joked back, putting on a fake pout. [/blockquote]

Trevor grinned when he recognized her muggle reference. It would be so refreshing if he was able to have a conversation with someone that wasn't from a magical family, and was interested in the same muggle things he was. He hadn't been able to do that in what felt like forever, mostly because all of his friends had no knowledge in barely anything muggle related.
He nodded slightly, "Yeah, I usually find myself in the kitchen sometimes from boredom," he admitted, stroking the snowy owl once more, "They're so nice and.. obedient," he added, "They'll get you whatever you want.. it's pretty sweet," he grinned at the memories. They're food did taste pretty good, too. It was cool to go in their for a midnight snack occasionally.
"Well, maybe we should sneak this owl into the kitchens," he joked, peering at the owl, "But, poor little buddy, I don't carry food around wherever I go," he cooed, chuckling slightly, "Maybe I should though.. you never know when you can get randomly hungry, or run into something else that's.. randomly hungry," he finished lamely, stroking the owls light feathers once more.

Millie tried to hold in her sigh of relief that Trevor had gotten her reference. It helped her relax a little more knowing that he would get the jokes she pulled. It wasn't like being around some of her other friends, where she had to try and keep the humor inside the Wizard world. Pulling small jokes like that made her feel like she was a little closer to home, despite her being different than her family could have ever imagined.
"They are really sweet." Millie said pensively. It was always fun to go there and meet the new elves who each brought their own kind of spice (no pun intended). "Out of boredom, yeah? Sometimes I go there when I'm cold, because they always have that huge fire there." She admitted with a weak smile.
"Where ever would we hide him?" Millie asked in mock surprise, looking at the owl. "Surely, they would notice an owl shaped bump under our shirts." She said, putting her hand to her mouth, pretending to think. Millie smiled when Trevor cooed at the owl, whether he was joking or not it was almost...cute to hear him coo at the owl. You're being stupid She told herself. "Hm. A Food supply...sounds reasonable. In case you get lost, right?" Millie said, half joking and half serious. "Or, yeah, you run into someone who's just randomly hungry-just take out a sandwich, and boom- there you go." She said with a grin. [/blockquote]

Trevor stroked the owl a couple more times, "It better not.. crap on me or something," he muttered, mostly to himself, but it was loud enough for Millie to hear. It just seemed to be stuck on his shoulder there, like it was never going to leave, "Why me? I guess I am quite attractive but.. you're an owl," he joked, "It will never work," he stated simply, peering at the bird, "And you may be a dude, and though it may seem, I don't swing that way. Sorry."
He tore his eyes from the owl as Millie spoke once more, "Huh, well, it's sweet they got free food here, whenever you want it, basically," he replied. It was sort of a lame response, but it was the only thing he could come up with at the moment. He chuckled slightly, "Well, there's a spell that makes things invisible.. Just I don't know what it is.. I mean there must be. There's a spell for everything," he trailed off, seeming to be in thought.
He snapped out of his little trance as he let a grin spread across his features once more, "Food takes care of everyones problems," he began simply, "I mean, I'm so trained in the art of food.. storage.. that I have little pouches in my cheeks like a hamster. They come in handy," he lied. He had always wondered what it was like to be a hamster, storing food in his cheek pouches, as weird as that sounded.

Millie watched Trevor's body language as he stroked the owl. He seemed calm and collect. She giggled when Trevor had mumbled a hope that the owl wouldn't crap on him. "Don't worry. It has the hay under us for that." She commented cooly and smiling widely. "Why me? I guess I am quite attractive but.. you're an owl," Laughing, Millie almost agreed with Trevor but realized that would probably make the situation a little awkward.
"But he loves you," Millie sighed. "It's romantic, regardless of which way you roll." She joked. When Trevor mentioned a spell for everything, she tried to think of something that wasn't solved by magic. Off the top of her head, she couldn't think of anything. With a dejected sigh, she shrugged. "I guess magic solves everything." Millie finally admitted with a laugh.
"Food does seem to solve everything, doesn't it?" Mille commented with a small thoughtful frown. At first Millie thought Trevor meant fat as storing food, but when he said cheek pouches she started laughing again. "I don't think people would want to share food with you...or was that your evil plan to keep the food all to yourself?" She said in a mock pondering tone.

Trevor snorted slightly as he glanced at the ground. Even after staring at it, he hadn't noticed the disgusting state of the floor. It wasn't that bad, but still.., "Well, yeah, sure, but if it lands on my shoulder, I won't be a happy camper," he explained, eyeing the owl suspiciously as if it was just about to use the bathroom on him or something.
He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at her comment, "Really, huh? Well.. I really don't think this owl knows what love is," he explained simply, "I mean.. it better be like a sibling sort of love. I don't do the romantic sort of love," he explained, nearly going into another rant again, "I mean, it doesn't exist so.." he trailed off, realizing what he had said. That wasn't the smartest thing to say, but he was just speaking his mind and couldn't help himself.
Trying to change the subject, he nodded quickly, "Uh, yeah yeah," he began, "I mean, magic is like a way of cheating.. I feel bad for the muggles. They have to do everything manually," he let out a dry chuckle, nibbling slightly on his bottom lip without even realizing it.
When is this thing gonna leave? he thought to himself, glancing at the snowy owl once more. He didn't know if it was a school owl or some other student's owl, but it wasn't all that messed up.. just a bit annoying, "Yeah, I would.. eat in front of everyone else and laugh in their face because they wouldn't want any of it themselves, even if they were starving.. because it's been in my cheek pouches," he explained. He loved making things up as he went along.

Millie had glanced down at the floor and tried not to look at it again. It was so, so disgusting and she wanted to go sit down on the window so at least her shoes would be clean. Millie brought her heel up a little bit, just in case. "I don't blame you." She replied simply with a smile. "Humans are friends, not litter boxes." Litter boxes belonged to cats, but at least that got the analogy across. Millie thought to herself. "Animals don't really love in the romantic sense, no." Millie agreed. When Trevor began a rant on how he believed that real love didn't really exist. Her heart fell a little when he mentioned that he didn't do the real kind of love, which didn't technically didn't exist in his world. "What do you mean, you don't think true love exists?" Millie asked coolly. She wasn't upset (well, not very upset anyway), more confused. Being a theater geek, Millie saw millions of plays that had to do with love that all seemed real. Even certain movies. She believed in true love very strongly...something she always dreamed about. It was then that Millie realized the subject had changed. "Yeah...sometimes over the summer when my siblings are trying to get stuff done I feel bad because I know it could be done in the blink of an eye..." She agreed with a small nod. The dry chuckle Trevor uttered made Millie give a weak smile in return. She looked to the owl briefly and sighed. "Aiight, you. Shoo. Go play with your buddies." Millie said, staring at the owl who stared back twice as menacingly. Slightly disturbed, she walked over to it. "Maybe if you shrug your shoulder a little bit?" She suggested, holding her arm out to the bird. Laughing, she looked at Trevor. "Cheek pouches would also be useful during class, too. Just randomly eat during a lesson..." Millie joked, looking at Trevor than to the bird. [/blockquote]

With the owl still perched on his shoulder, Trevor took one of his feet and lazily kicked around some of the soiled hay that littered the floor beneath his feet, grinning slightly at her reply, "Yeah.. and oh, I better not smell like owl after this," he replied with a small laugh.
He kind of figured that she would question him on why he said what he had said, which was why he had regretted letting it escape his mouth in the first place. It just seemed that once he started talking, he couldn't stop himself, and some of the things not many people knew about him came spilling out, "Well, uh.. I dunno, it's just.." he began uncomfortably, still moving the soiled hay around with his foot, trying to distract himself, "I guess it's one of those things that I don't think exist if I don't.. see it, or ever feel it or something," he replied honestly. At least he had responded truthfully and not entirely avoided the question. He felt so vulnerable at that moment.
He nodded slightly at her reply on magic making things so much more easy, "Yeah, I feel like sometimes I take this whole magic thing for granted, and I've forgotten what it's like to live without it," he admitted honestly. Wow, he was just full of truth today. How strange.
Trev glared at the owl menacingly, trying to make it fly away from just the look he gave it, just like Millie seemed to be doing. He glanced at her outstretched arm, but the snowy owl didn't seem to be taking it, "C'mon you.. owl thing," he muttered, shaking his shoulder slightly. Luckily, it hopped right from his shoulder and onto Millie's arm. He dusted the stray feather off of his shoulder, but luckily there was nothing more.
